We're all in such a hurry it seems these days and nowhere is it more evident than in the kitchen. There was a time when dinner on the table meant hours of preparation. But, without someone home all day, how does a meal prepared from scratch take place? Perhaps the answer is choosing one part of the meal that can be made just like in the old days without too much trouble. How about some simple homemade biscuits?

Homemade biscuits made from scratch are the perfect choice because they are easy to make. With much fuss, homemade biscuits can easily be measured and mixed with the help of the whole family. Get the kids ready to mix the dough together with their little hands. Even very young children with short attention spans can help as this dough needs very little mixing time. The dough will be ready long before the kids lose their interest!

Homemade biscuit recipes usually call for only four or five basic ingredients. You'll use, of course, flour, baking powder, and salt, with some kind of shortening, oil, and milk. Be sure to use a good, heavy mixing bowl. Just measure everything into the bowl and you'll be ready to mix and get the dough ready to roll!

Be sure you have a nice big surface to roll the dough out onto, preferably someplace sturdy and easy for everyone to reach. Grab a little extra white flour for coating the surface to prevent the dough from sticking. You can use a rolling pin to roll out the biscuit dough, but your hands will work also.

You can choose just about any circular object you want to cut out the biscuits. If you are involving the kids, be sure to choose something that's safe for them - like a clean soup can or such. You can use a real biscuit cutter, of course, if you have one. Even a regular water glass would work. Take your biscuit cutter, dip it in a little flour to keep the dough from sticking, push down on the dough, give a little twist, and pull back. Your biscuit should be all ready to plop out onto your baking sheet.

You'll want to preheat your oven to a hot temperature before you are done cutting out the biscuits. As you cut your biscuits, arrange them evenly on a baking or cookie sheet. Then all you have to do is closely watch them in the oven as they begin to turn a delicious golden color!

Making homemade biscuits from scratch only takes about 20 minutes. Do you think you could sacrifice 20 minutes of time during your busy schedule tonight if you knew some hot, golden brown, buttery biscuits were the reward? I'm thinking the answer is "yes!"

Quick and easy meals are the norm today. We all need to have dinner on the table in record time. But, are you looking at your dinner table night after night thinking something's missing? With a few minutes and a few ingredients, you can serve your family hot, delicious homemade biscuits made from scratch. That's a meal idea that's worth celebrating!
